FIRESIDE CRAFTS: THANKSGIVING PLACEMATS

This is an easy  and fun craft for kids and adults alike that allows you to show off your creative side. Here are some pointers.

• Order extendable roasting sticks with large handles. The extendable nature of the metal fork allows for maximum fireside safety, and the large handle provides plenty of room for creativity. We really like these.
• Gather your art supplies. We like to keep it simple with paint, yarn and washi tape (an easy-to-tear paper tape that comes in every pattern and color you can think of).
• Get creative! Here are some ideas to get you started:
  -Create a pattern with various colors of washi tape wrapped around the roasting stick handle. Why not rep your favorite sports team’s colors or your school colors?
  -Add some texture with a bit of yarn. Secure the end in place with washi tape and wrap tightly around the handle, securing at the other end with more washi tape.
  -Use waterproof paint to add your initials, name or whatever else strikes your fancy.
  -Use a hot glue gun to add beads, feathers, googly eyes or other trinkets to the handle.
• Allow your customized roasting stick to dry completely before you use it, and of course, wash the tines of the fork before adding marshmallows.
