Duraflame firelogs light faster and burn more completely than firewood, and because far less material is consumed when burning a firelog, significantly fewer pollutants are emitted than a comparable wood fire. Compared to a similar duration wood fire, a duraflame® firelog emits:

• 80% less fine particles
• 75% less carbon monoxide
• 90% less hazardous air pollutants

A duraflame firelog consumes 80% less material than a comparable duration wood fire, and burning firelogs instead of wood results in significantly fewer trees cut down for use as firewood.

Duraflame firelogs and firestarters use only recycled wood and agricultural fibers, saving valuable natural resources. The renewable fibers are mixed with blends of wax and other combustible, renewable materials.

Some duraflame products are made from 100% renewable waxes and oils, combined with recycled and renewable sawdust and agricultural fibers. Look for a USDA mark on the packaging certifying their 100% biobased content. For more information about the certification, visit www.biopreferred.gov.

Those Duraflame firelogs that are made from 100% renewable materials produce 70% less greenhouse gas emissions than an equivalent duration fire in a gas fireplace. Although gas fireplaces are often touted as the cleanest burning alternative to firewood due to their low fine particulate emissions, 99% of their combustion emissions are greenhouse gases from non-renewable fossil fuel.
