DIY Fireplace Ugly Sweater Tutorial
Supplies You'll Need:
- Sweater
- Kraft butcher paper or paper towel roll
- Black felt (1 piece) with adhesive
- Gold or yellow felt (1 piece - 8.5x11)
- Red felt (1 piece - 8.5x11)
- Felt wreath (or make your own)
- Felt stockings (or make your own)
- Festive pom poms
- Festive garland
- Red ribbon
- Glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Tape
- Scissors
- Plain paper (1 piece - 8.5x11)
- Pencil
- Tacky glue
- Gold glitter
- Cardboard
Step By Step Instructions:
- Lay sweater on flat surface. Place piece of cardboard between the top and bottom layer of the sweater. Tip: Cardboard will prevent the hot glue from binding the front and back of the sweater together.
- Center black felt on sweater and align bottom to the edge of the sweater. Peel off back of self-adhesive black felt (or use glue gun) to secure.
- Create fire pattern on plain paper. Free hand it or print out handy dandy template. Fire size should be smaller than the black felt.
- Cut out fire pattern on red felt. Secure red felt to gold felt. Cut out gold felt following fire pattern to make it larger than red felt or use our simple cut-out template.
- Add tacky glue to top of the fire and add glitter. Shake off any excess glitter.
- Adhere fire to the center of the black felt with hot glue.
- Make firelog. Cut at strip of kraft butcher paper 4 inches wide and 8 inches long. Paper will organically roll up. Tape to secure. Use hot glue gun to secure log to sweater.
- Use hot glue to add festival garland from one sleeve, across the chest and down to the other sleeve to create the fireplace mantel.
- Use hot glue to secure green felt wreath above mantel.
- Then the fun part! Decorate it to make it your own. Add festive pom poms to wreath. Add felt stockings to the mantel. Use up extra holiday decorations like bows, ribbons, and more.
