Backyard Bocce: How To Play Like A Pro
Bocce, a close cousin to lawn bowling, is a simple game involving two teams of two that each try and toss bocce balls closest to a leader ball, called the pallino. It's a great backyard game that's perfect for summer, spring, winter, or fall. The game starts with a team member on either team tossing the pallino. The opposite team starts, throwing a single ball. Then the other team throws. Teams throw until they have the closest ball to the pallino.
Tip #1: Find the right grip.
Some people like to hold the ball and toss wrist facing down. Some like their wrist facing up. Find your right grip and toss consistently to be able to improve!
Tip #2: Learn whether you're better at short or long distance
Throwing the pallino short or long is a choice every thrower has to start the game. Learning whether you're better at precision close up or far away can give you the edge in deciding the game.
Tip #3: Focus on the first throw
The first throw often decides the game, because getting a good first shot at the pallino can push your opponents into a corner so they have to fight back throughout the rest of the game. Throw carefully!
Tip #4: Celebrate victory or defeat
Celebrations are half the reason we play. Be sure to celebrate your victories and defeats equally - with a relaxed, warm rest by the fire pit.
